Artist Statement and Biography

Vicky believes we carry inside us everything we seek outside us, and creates vibrant, contemporary abstract paintings to conceptualise that which exists but cannot be seen.

Her work is rooted in transformation, her passion for the mind body spirit connection and the golden thread that connects us. Vicky’s practise is deeply meditative, guided by the process rather than taking control of it. Using texture, layers and spontaneous mark making, Vicky aims to capture the energy of oneness, elemental matter, the unseen world, all things sharing a source energy and being connected to an infinite universe. Often featuring many layers, her work reflects the complexity of the human experience and the impact we have, and leave, on each other and the world around us.

Vicky has incorporated her passion for spiritual practises into developing herself as an artist, and describes her paintings as “a visual alchemy informed by the viewer’s own perceptions and personal experiences”.

Biography

Vicky Paul is a Scottish contemporary artist living and working in Edinburgh.

She spent her childhood drawing and acting, inspired by her grandfathers' passion for painting, and a calling to express herself. Always a free spirit, Vicky travelled to India and the Middle East before settling in Paris for a year. Back in the UK, she enjoyed a successful career as an award-winning radio presenter, reporting backstage from the MTV VMA’s and interviewing everyone from Madonna, to Kylie and George Michael.

In her 30’s, a profound experience led Vicky to sense and work with energy, and she returned to painting as a form of therapy. Drawn to vibrant colour palettes, inspired by her passion for the natural world and her love of travel and different cultures, she found solace, freedom and rebellion in abstract painting. She paints quickly and intuitively using acrylics, mixed media and spray paint on canvas and wooden board.

Vicky began exhibiting in 2018, and curated her first solo virtual exhibition ‘Seen and Unseen’ during the pandemic. She runs intuitive painting workshops, is a live event artist and had her first Open House in 2023.
